The Estonian driver is currently fourth in the competition, but nearly 40 seconds behind the leader and his teammate Thierry Neuville. Tänak complained at the remote service in Rijeka that the car’s setup’s were not hitting the mark.

“It’s tough to point it at the moment. So let’s see what we what we can figure out. It was a clean morning, so, no drama,” Tänak told RallyJournal.com.

“It’s been a bit of a struggle in the stages, but otherwise we’ve had a clean run.”

Tänak is contesting fourth place against the season’s surprise, M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux. After four special stages, the Estonian is 4.3 seconds ahead of Fourmaux.

“Well, we are still behind him, but it’s good to have a fight with him. But still, it’s a long, long rally to go,” Fourmaux summarized.

“This afternoon will be different. We’ll see what type of tyres they are taking and what we will take.”

The Croatia Rally never lets up, and this year is no exception. Conditions were partly severe, although the weather remained dry.

“As you can see on the car, there is a lot of dust on the road here for sure. The road is quite dry, but it’s just that the cuts are really wet, so there’s mud everywhere in every cut. So then every car that goes in the cut puts mud on the road. It’s crazy. I was really surprised that even being third on the road, the roads were really, really dirty already,” Fourmaux pondered.

Four more special stages are scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Croatia Rally. The event concludes on Sunday.
