Patron and apprentice in the same WRC rally – “I saw no reason why not”

Gregoire Munster, who is driving a full season with M-Sport Ford's rally team, has not had a rosy start in the WRC series.

In the season-opening Rally Monte Carlo, Munster retired after a promising start due to a crash. In the snowy conditions of Sweden, several ventures into the snowbanks dropped him far from the points. Two WRC rallies have brought Munster only one point.

This week’s Safari Rally presents Munster with another opportunity. In an unpredictable competition, a clean performance can elevate a driver high in the final standings, even if their speed isn’t top-tier.

“I’m really looking forward to Kenya because it’s a rally I really appreciate, I had the chance to do it last year in the Rally2. I also competed on the classic rally with Jourdan (Serderidis) in historic cars recently,” Munster says.

“It’s such a challenge to drive there, you can be fast in some sections but you also need to be really cautious in others, it makes the adventure so beautiful. Rally Kenya is so difficult and so enjoyable for drivers at the same time.”

Munster is supported by Greek-Belgian businessman Serderidis. The veteran returns to the Rally1 car’s helm in Kenya as well. Serderidis’s best result comes from the Safari Rally, where he finished seventh in the 2022 season.

“Kenya is definitely one of my best memories and my best result so far in WRC, so I did not see any reason why not to enjoy the event one more time! I look forward to working close to my friend Gregoire again,” Serderidis sums up.

“The environment in which we are driving feels a bit like a dream with the wildlife and the nature. The weather changes can happen so quickly, if it rains it is often very heavy and it alters the whole profile of the stage,” Munster adds.

The Safari Rally will feature a total of 19 special stages, totaling about 370 kilometers.
