By the deadline, 93 racing pairs had signed up for the iconic Rally Monte Carlo. However, registration did not guarantee entry into the competition, even if all other requirements were met, as there were only 70 spots available for teams.

Consequently, last week, several teams received disappointing emails from the organizers: “unfortunately, we must inform you that your registration has not been accepted.” One of these drivers was the Frenchman Thibaut Poizot.

Poizot has competed in Monte Carlo five times before. For this year, he had made a significant investment in the competition by purchasing a new car, a Skoda Fabia R5. Poizot participated in a test sense in the Devoluy winter rally in December with the car, finishing in 11th place.

However, his dream of driving in Monte Carlo with a better car will not come true.

“We had booked hotels in Monaco, had new suits made, and bought a car, which will now be put back up for sale” Poizot lamented to the French BFM TV.

– Now I’m drawing a line through this rally because they don’t want amateurs to participate.

The number of competitors in the Monte Carlo rally is limited due to limited space in the service area. This year, the legendary competition’s central location is in the city of Gap. The competition begins traditionally in Monaco, where it also concludes.

“50 years ago, 250 cars were taken in. Now the number is only 70, so there’s clearly a problem” Poizot stated.

The Monte Carlo World Rally is set to take place from January 25th to 28th.
