Sordo drove a consistent and strong weekend, and the long break from the WRC’s top class did not show at all.

The last time Sordo had competed in the WRC’s premier class was at the end of last year in Japan, so there had been a break of over half a year.

However, one would not have believed it, as Sordo kept up excellently with the pace of the leaders and even set the fastest times. The Spaniard ultimately finished fifth in the competition.

“Sunday morning was a little bit difficult with the conditions we had in the morning, but the first two days were really promising,”Sordo said in a Hyundai press release.

“Of course I’m happy to get to the end of the day with some really good points, and for my first weekend back with the team I think we have still managed to help them get back to the top of the manufacturers’ championship,” Sordo continued.

The stages in Rally de Portugal are familiar to everyone. Sordo felt the competition prepared him well for Sardinia as well.

“It was a good gravel rally to start with, one that I know well, and it’s a good one to enter before Sardinia,” Sordo observed.

Last year, Sordo had to retire in Sardinia due to technical problems. Now, he is naturally hoping for a better result.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do back in the car at the next event and I want to thank the team again for helping me finish the weekend in the top five,” Sordo appreciated.
