Korhonen was set to compete on the Mediterranean island in the WRC2 class with a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 car. Last weekend, Korhonen participated in the SM Länsirannikon Ralli event, where he had a severe crash.

Due to his crash, Korhonen will miss the trip to Sardinia. Following the accident, Korhonen underwent a routine medical examination, which led to his decision to withdraw.

“The crash was quite high-speed, so I thought it best to get a medical check-up. My back is sore, and several doctors recommended not travelling to Sardinia,” Korhonen explained in his statement.

“Health comes first, and this decision was not made lightly but based on the doctors’ advice. I want to extend my apologies to the entire team and all our partners,” Korhonen added.

Korhonen’s crash occurred at the beginning of the first special stage on Saturday morning when he was attempting a hard attack.

“We just came in too fast into a right turn after a crest. The car went off the road, hit a big mound, and took a big jump. The rear wheel slid wide, and that’s how it went,” Korhonen recounted.

Korhonen is set to compete next in the SM Pohjanmaa Ralli in Seinäjoki, Finland on 14-15 June.
