French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Ogier as a Knight of the Legion of Honor. Ogier shared the news on his Instagram account.

The ceremony, held at the Elysee Palace, saw President Macron unable to recall all the honorees’ names and achievements, leading to his aide holding up a cheat sheet for him.

Ogier has won eight World Rally Championships. Only his compatriot, Sebastien Loeb, has more championships, with nine.

“It’s been a special moment, and a meeting with the French President that will remain engraved in my memory,”  Ogier wrote on Instagram.

“It’s also an opportunity to look back on my whole path and for me to thank all those who have supported my career,” Ogier continued.

In addition to Ogier, other motorsport figures who have been knighted in the Legion of Honor include Formula One world champion Alain Prost, Jean Alesi, and the nine-time rally champion Loeb.

Ogier, 40, began competing in the World Rally Championship in 2008. He won the world championship in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

Ogier reached an impressive milestone at the Croatia Rally in April, securing his 100th podium finish.

“There was a point maybe in my career when I didn’t appreciate it enough because it became too normal, but as you get older and the competition is tough, you need to celebrate a bit more and you appreciate them more,” said Ogier after his victory in Croatia.
