Firstly, M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux had a major mishap. The French driver collided with a concrete anti-cut block, which forced him to stop for repairs alongside his co-driver, Alexandre Coria.
Fourmaux was eventually able to continue, but he was out of contention for Sunday’s points.
Meanwhile, Toyota’s Elfyn Evans damaged the rear of his car and spun, losing about 20 seconds.
Thierry Neuville, who was leading after Saturday, went straight into the bushes but managed to continue. Neuville eventually finished 23.3 seconds behind the leading time.
“There was a lot of corners, when I got the pace note it was far too late,” Neuville stated.
Due to the troubles of the leaders, Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier moved to the front of the competition, 9.1 seconds ahead of Evans. Neuville is just behind Evans.
Under the current points system, separate day-specific points are awarded on Sunday. On Sunday’s two stages, Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta has maintained the fastest pace, followed by Hyundai’s Ott Tänak. In the overall standings, Tänak is fourth and Katsuta fifth.
However, Evans and Neuville are not in contention for Sunday’s top points due to their issues. Evans is sixth in Sunday’s standings, and Neuville is seventh.
Two more special stages will take place in the Croatia Rally on Sunday.
