Fourmaux achieved his career’s first podium finish in the previous round in Sweden, and now the Frenchman is one day away from another podium place.
Currently in third, Fourmaux has driven sensibly throughout the weekend. Only a tire puncture on Saturday’s final special stage slightly slowed the Ford driver’s progress.
“I’ve been quite pleased with my pace all weekend. We’ve been really sensible with the car on the rocky places, but we’ve also been pushing when it was more open,” Fourmaux reviewed.
With a minute’s lead over Elfyn Evans, who is in fourth and will undoubtedly go for the points on Sunday, Fourmaux is in two minds about his strategy for the final day.
“I want to get this podium in the end. We have a quite good gap now to the fourth position. But now, with the new regulations for Sunday, and we are also fighting for the championship. Maybe I will push a little bit more,” Fourmaux pondered.
“But in the end, we still need to cross the finish line to get it. We’ll have to find the balance, and it’s not so easy.”
M-Sport team principal Richard Millener could only praise Fourmaux at the end of Saturday. Expectations were not high for M-Sport Ford’s drivers before the season, but now the Frenchman is once again driving for a top result for the British team.
“Another fantastic day for Adrien. Really strong and clever drive,” Millener said.
“I think even driving around sensibly, he could still get fourth or fifth in the Sunday points, which would be great.”
