The WRC stars began their week on Monday with reconnaissance. Championship leader Neuville, however, started his preparations with a fine issued by the Clerk of the Course for speeding.
The Hyundai star was clocked at 68.5 km/h in an area with a speed limit of 60 km/h on Monday morning. As a result, Neuville received a €200 fine from the Clerk of the Course.
Neuville’s offence occurred during reconnaissance for stage 11. On the same stage, Japanese driver Satoshi Imai was also caught speeding and received a €300 fine.
The Belgian star has the chance to secure his first world championship title in the season-ending Rally Japan. Neuville holds a 25-point lead over his Hyundai teammate Ott Tänak in the championship standings. If Neuville scores at least six points in the final rally, he will be crowned champion.
The manufacturers’ championship will also be decided in Japan. Hyundai leads Toyota by 15 points going into the weekend’s rally.
