The 23-year-old Solberg got his first taste of the WRC’s top class in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. However, Hyundai dropped him from their lineup at the end of 2022, and since last year, the young talent has been looking to revitalise his career in the WRC2 class with Skoda.

This season, Solberg has shown outstanding speed with his Skoda Fabia. He has claimed three WRC2 wins and still has a shot at the championship before the final round of the season.

Solberg has long been the subject of speculation. Current M-Sport Ford driver Adrien Fourmaux has been linked to a Hyundai spot, and if the Frenchman’s move materialises, it could open a spot for Solberg at M-Sport.

According to Solberg, he has been in discussions with top-class teams, but returning to a Rally1 car requires hard work.

“The dream is to be in Rally1 but I think that will be difficult, but you never know,” Solberg said after last week’s Central European Rally.

Solberg neither confirmed nor denied whether M-Sport is a genuine option for him.

“In the short term, it could be interesting. But looking at the long term, my dream is to have a long career in the WRC, and I don’t want to make the same mistake I did with Hyundai. I know how that went, and I’m much more cautious in my decisions now,” Solberg explained.

“Joining M-Sport might be great. They’ve had a good season, but there have been some issues here and there. I may be one of the youngest, but this is an important step in my career, and I don’t want to get it wrong this time.”

If Solberg doesn’t end up in a Rally1 car for the 2025 season, the Swede has a clear plan for his future.

“I think I have very good options for WRC2 and I am extremely lucky with the options I have been offered. It is something that I don’t think anyone has got in WRC2. For sure that is very attractive, but my dream is Rally1,” Solberg emphasised.
