The opening round of the ERC takes place in Spain, where the Sierra Morena Rally kicks off the season.
This time, the starting line also features stars from the World Rally Championship, with both Toyota’s Elfyn Evans and Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville taking part.
The Sierra Morena Rally also serves as preparation for Evans and Neuville ahead of the WRC round in the Canary Islands, which will be held at the end of April.
Yesterday, Wednesday, was the official test day for the Sierra Morena Rally, and among those who got behind the wheel was Evans. You can watch a video of Evans’ test runs below this article.
Evans has had a brilliant start to his WRC season and currently leads the drivers’ standings after three rounds. He finished second in the season-opening Rallye Monte Carlo, just behind his teammate Sébastien Ogier, and claimed an impressive win at Rally Sweden in February. The Welshman’s winning streak continued at the Safari Rally Kenya in March, where he also took victory.
The Sierra Morena ERC rally, held in Córdoba, will kick off with a superspecial stage in the city centre on Friday evening. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be three special stages each day, all of which will be driven twice.
Flying the Finnish flag on the Spanish tarmac will be Tuukka Kauppinen and Leevi Lassila. Kauppinen will be competing in a Peugeot 208 Rally4, while Lassila will be driving an Opel Corsa Rally4.
