Ahead of this weekend’s Croatia Rally, Evans is second in the points table, just six points behind the leader Thierry Neuville.

Last year, Evans clinched victory at the Croatian tarmac rally. The Welshman therefore knows well what it takes to succeed on the tarmac stages around Zagreb.

“I think there’s no chance of going easy. Otherwise, you’ll be last,” Evans stated.

“Of course, we hope to drive with a good rhythm. Of course, you need to get through the day also, but for sure we need to try and be in a good position at the end of tomorrow,” the Toyota star outlined ahead of the opening day of the rally.

Conditions could make the fast-paced Croatian round even more challenging. Last week, the weather in Zagreb was scorching, but temperatures plummeted for the rally week, leading to variable conditions.

Rain is likely during the race, which will make the stages slippery. However, Thursday’s shakedown was conducted in dry conditions.

“I don’t see it being completely dry through the whole weekend. That would be more of a surprise,” Evans chuckled.

It took Evans a while to get accustomed to Toyota’s Rally1 car, but last year’s Croatia Rally saw him take his first victory in the hybrid car. Since then, Evans has been producing solid results with the GR Yaris.

“Overall, the feeling is fine in the car. The rally will tell the tale, I guess, if it’s good or not,” Evans pondered.
