Verstappen was in contention for third place in the rally, but it all ended in huge disappointment at the last moment.

Verstappen went off the road on the final special stage of the rally, prematurely ending his effort. Fortunately, both Verstappen and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul were unharmed in the incident.

“It was more difficult here. We tried everything, but we are reaching our maximum,” Verstappen commented on Verstappen.nl.

“This rally is different again than the previous one in Wallonia, which was a much faster course. When you give it your all, but it’s not fast enough, then it is what it is,” Verstappen lamented.

The Sezoensrally was part of the Belgian Rally Championship series. Jos Verstappen started the event strongly and was keeping up with the lead pace, especially at the beginning of the rally. The round covered a total of 139 special stage kilometers and had 81 participants.

“It was hard, you don’t know where it is slippery. Especially the first part was very slippery, I just played it safe. I wanted to get though the first round and then try to push,” Verstappen explained.

The rally was won by Belgian Niels Reynvoet, who finished just 3.6 seconds ahead of Maxime Potty. Rally1 driver Gregoire Munster’s brother, Charles, finished fourth in a Hyundai Rally2 car.

Verstappen also had to retire from his previous event. In the Rallye de Wallonie at the end of April, he suffered a double puncture.

However, Jos’s spirits were undoubtedly lifted by the fact that his son, Max Verstappen, won the Formula One Imola Grand Prix on Sunday. Verstappen has now won five out of seven races this year, and the F1 championship could potentially be decided unusually early this season.
