As one crew after another encountered issues on Friday, Sordo climbed to second place in the overall standings.

Sordo did exactly what a third driver is expected to do, securing valuable points for his team in the manufacturers’ championship. Hyundai heads into Saturday with a 1-2-3 lead, as all three Toyota cars faced problems on Friday.

“Obviously it was a positive day for us,” Sordo summarised.

“We have a big issue in the last three stages. And we didn’t take a lot of risks to save the car,” Sordo continued.

Although his Hyundai wasn’t running at full power due to the technical problems, the experienced driver kept his composure.

“We drove the last stage of the day in a normal way, but we didn’t want to make any mistakes. The car was really hot, and it was a very demanding,” Sordo recalled.

Saturday is expected to be even more challenging than Friday. The schedule includes another six stages, but this time with only a short tyre fitting zone in between.

“So tomorrow will also be a really long day. It will be even trickier. For now, we’ve made it through one day, and that’s good for us. Tomorrow will be another challenge.”
