On Wednesday, it was revealed that the two-time rally world champion Rovanperä had tested Red Bull’s F1 car over the previous weekend in Austria.

Rovanperä got a taste of the 2012 RB8 car, and he also had the chance to drive F4 and Formula Renault 3.5 cars.

During the day, Rovanperä completed around 50 laps at the Red Bull Ring. He was all smiles after the test.

“This was a great experience and has been a long time coming. I’m left with really good vibes from this. Huge thanks, it was an amazing day,” Rovanperä said, thanking Red Bull Racing and his partner.

Now, more video footage from Rovanperä’s test has been released. The Finnish star’s control shows that he can handle an F1 car well.

“The biggest difference between a Rally1 car and an F1 car is, of course, that a rally car moves much more from the body. An F1 car is more like a go-kart – it doesn’t have much suspension movement, but there’s an insane amount of grip,” Rovanperä explained.

“Of course, an F1 car has a huge amount of downforce, which means you can take corners much faster. It also feels quite different physically, with much more lateral G-force. The car brakes harder and turns more sharply. It feels very different for the driver, with so much more G-force and grip.”

Rovanperä shared that he enjoyed the unique driving experience.

“When you sit in the car for the first time, it feels quite different from a rally car. Even the seating position is so different, giving a whole different feeling. It was cool to get a feel for it,” Rovanperä reflected.
