Hyundai driver Philip Allen was found guilty of a severe breach during Rally Hungary, according to a decision by the stewards.

Allen was caught speeding excessively during a liaison. He was recorded driving at 161 kilometres per hour on a section of road where the maximum speed limit was 60 kilometres per hour.

The serious speeding offence occurred on the final day of the rally, Sunday.

The stewards imposed a significant penalty on Allen. The British driver was fined €2,375 by the clerk of the course and also received a 15-minute time penalty in the competition. Additionally, Allen and his co-driver Dale Furniss are required to perform five hours of public service.

The public service must be performed before the next ERC event in the Canary Islands in May. If Allen and Furniss do not participate in the Rally Islas Canarias, the punishment will be transferred to the next ERC event they enter.

During the hearing, Allen and his co-driver Furniss admitted to the speeding. They explained that they had been experiencing issues with their car and had to hurry to reach the next stage on time.

Allen also stated that he was unaware the speed limit on that particular road was only 60 kilometres per hour.

Allen apologised for the incident and sought forgiveness, but the stewards found the offence too serious to consider any mitigating circumstances.

Romanian driver Simone Tempestini won the rally, which concluded on Sunday, marking his first career ERC victory.
