A month ago, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) released a comprehensive list of changes set to be implemented next season. Among other adjustments, hybrid units will be removed, and cars are expected to become cheaper by reducing their power and aerodynamics.
Hyundai star Esapekka Lappi unexpectedly chose to keep his opinions to himself when asked about his stance on the reforms in Kenya.
“I don’t want to comment on that. I think we all have different opinions, and in the end, we influence things in some way. I will drive with whatever they give me,” Lappi stated.
In contrast, Toyota’s Welsh driver Elfyn Evans did share his thoughts on the subject. Evans feels that the changes are being rushed.
“I’m not aware it’s (rule changes) signed off yet. Hopefully it stays like this,” Evans said.
According to the Toyota star, making significant changes for the “interim years” is unnecessary. Instead, the focus should be on building a viable package for a couple of years down the line.
“Personally, I think we should stay as we are, and we should focus on doing a proper job for 2027. I think there’s a big job to do, to fix this,” Evans summarized.
“I think ultimately, while there is a commitment for the next years anyway, that we should forget about what’s happening in the next two years and make a proper plan for 2027.”
