Rovanperä competed in the Rally de Portugal last weekend, where he had to retire once due to an off-road incident. After the rally, Toyota’s Finnish star announced that he would be taking a break for a holiday.

Engines and impressive cars remain part of Rovanperä’s agenda even during his holiday. On Thursday, Rovanperä showcased his latest acquisition, which allows him to engage in his secondary hobby, drifting.

Rovanperä’s new vehicle is a BMW M5, which he shared pictures of on social media.

“Let me introduce you my new grassroots drift car. I always want to do something different and E60 M5 is definitely something what you dont see everyday as a drift car” Rovanperä enthused in his Instagram post.

By grassroots drifting, Rovanperä refers to a car that isn’t the latest in the sport. In grassroots drifting, the main focus is on having fun rather than competing.

“Can’t wait to test and develop this one,” Rovanperä rejoices.

Rovanperä’s main drifting competition car is a Toyota Supra A90, which he has competed with in the Drift Masters European Championship.

Next, Rovanperä will compete in an entirely new discipline. He will participate for the first time in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux series race in Zandvoort, Netherlands, from June 7-9.
