Solberg’s withdrawal was announced on Thursday evening.

Solberg’s participation ended even before the rally started, with the news of his withdrawal coming about an hour before the opening ceremony.

“Oliver is taking medication after suffering what is believed to have been an allergic reaction and following advice the decision has been taken to withdraw the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 from round six of the World Rally Championship”, the statement said.

The setback is certainly unfortunate for Solberg, but fortunately for the crew, they would not have collected any WRC2 points from Rally Sardinia.

Sardinia would have been Solberg’s fifth event of the season. Last year, he finished 44th overall and 26th in the second class in Sardinia.

This season, Solberg has won the WRC2 class at Rally Sweden, finished second in his class in Kenya, and his drive in Portugal ended in a crash.

Rally Sardinia starts on Friday morning with a shakedown stage. The competition itself begins on Friday afternoon and concludes on Sunday.
