On Friday, Tänak hit a rock, causing his car to veer off into a bank, which led to his retirement.

Despite this, thanks to the World Rally Championship’s new points system, Tänak still managed to secure 12 championship points from the rally.

“I would say it was definitely the smoothest we’ve ever had. The first year, 2021, with the fesh-fesh, it was very bad. 2022 was also extreme. And last year, we had a lot of bedrock. But this year was actually really smooth. So, not too bad at all,” Tänak recounted the competition.

However, the race was by no means easy. Tänak revealed he suffered from pain throughout the rally, unable to enjoy driving at any point over the weekend.

“In this one, you can’t enjoy yourself. You have a headache all the time, and it’s so painful for the body,” Tänak said.

“The cars are obviously strong. We are driving at speeds like in Europe. So, it’s a full push,” Tänak reminded.

According to Tänak, the physical challenge of the rally was felt with each passing day.

“It’s rough, and the body hurts every evening,” Tänak said.
