Delecour, 62, suffered a bad fall when he tried to attach his shirt to the handlebars.
“It got caught in the fork as I was descending at high speed,” Delecour recounted the accident on Instagram.
He received help through the location services on his phone. Shortly after the accident, Delecour shared that he had multiple fractures in his face and possibly a fractured vertebra.
Due to the injuries, Delecour had to skip the Rallye Saint-Yrieix last weekend, where he had planned to compete in a Peugeot 207 S2000. Despite his active rally career ending more than 20 years ago, Delecour has continued to compete regularly.
Last weekend, Delecour shared an update on his condition. The photo shows how well the bruises on his face have healed in just a week.
As it stands, the French ace is set to return to rallying in just over three weeks at the Rallylegend event in San Marino. Delecour is scheduled to drive the iconic Peugeot 306 Maxi.
Delecour drove a similar Peugeot in the WRC during the 1997-98 seasons. At the 1998 Tour de Corse, he finished second in the car.
Other former top drivers have also been confirmed for Rallylegend. The starting lineup includes German veteran Armin Schwarz, who will be driving a Group A Audi Quattro. From the current WRC stars, M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux will also take part, using the tarmac rally as a test ahead of the Central European Rally the following week.
