Neuville made an unfortunate mistake in Rally Sardinia on Saturday. The Belgian’s downfall came on the eighth special stage, where the WRC leader slipped into the underbrush.

“My concentration lapsed for just a moment in the previous corner, and I didn’t realize that a slow corner was coming next. By the time I understood this, it was already too late,” Neuville explained about his crash.

“I immediately realized that we were in a difficult situation,” the Belgian continued.

The crash occurred in a place where there were no spectators, which made the situation even more challenging.

“There was no one there to help, so continuing was no longer possible, even though the car wasn’t damaged,” Neuville recounted.

Fortunately for Neuville, the WRC has a new points system in place this season. It is still possible to score a significant amount of points on Sunday.

“For Sunday, the goal is very clear: we want to take the maximum points, which is 12 points. We will do our best on Sunday,” Neuville promised.

Neuville’s Saturday crash played into the hands of Toyota’s Elfyn Evans. The Welshman gained ten points on the WRC leader on Saturday, but he must finish on Sunday to secure those points.
