Katsuta went too wide in a corner and drove off the road. The incident wouldn’t have taken extra time, but the car took enough damage that Katsuta ultimately lost almost 50 seconds to the fastest time on the stage.
At the same time, Katsuta lost the chance to fight for a podium finish, as his position dropped to seventh. Before his mistake, Katsuta was in fifth place, but even the gap to second place was just over ten seconds.
“Yeah. This is shit! Kind of stupid mistake at the stupid chicane. Just overshoot. Just a stupid mistake,” Katsuta commented.
“And after that we just came back on the road, but we lost the power steering. Mainly for that, I lost a lot of time”
Katsuta’s expression at the end of the stage was pained as he tried to fight through the stage as fast as possible without power steering.
“It was not so easy to drive. Of course we are training for that. But still, it was quite hard.”, Katsuta sighed.
Katsuta has made several mistakes this season while trying to fight for podium finishes. He did manage to drive to the podium in Kenya, but he has retired in Sweden, Portugal, and Sardinia. Now the focus is on the points for Super Sunday.
“I was not able to take the stage wins, but quite a lot of second fastest times and quite close to the top. We were trying to step by step to catch in he front. But yeah, unfortunately last stage we lost quite a lot of time, so not possible anymore,” Katsuta summed up.
“I try to get the feeling back. We just need to forget about this, but tomorrow is a more important day, so we try to find some good feeling. Maybe we can try something with the setup. I need to reset a bit.”
