Sesks competed earlier this year in the Polish and Latvian WRC rallies with M-Sport’s Ford Puma Rally1 car. In Poland, he got a feel for the Puma without the hybrid unit and still impressively finished fifth.
In his home rally in Latvia, Sesks was even more competitive with the hybrid unit and sensationally battled for a podium position until the final special stage. A technical issue eventually dropped the Latvian from third to seventh place.
Sesks made his Rally1 debut with support from the WRC Promoter and M-Sport. Recently, there have been rumours that Sesks might get another opportunity in a Rally1 car during the latter part of the season.
It has now been confirmed that Sesks will return to the wheel of the Ford Puma Rally1 at the Rally Chile. The WRC Promoter supporting the project announced the news on Tuesday.
In Chile, Sesks’ car will not be equipped with a hybrid unit.
“We are very grateful for the opportunity to drive a Rally1 car again, just two months after our previous rally. It’s been an incredible adventure so far, and the experience of driving keeps getting better,” Sesks said with excitement.
“Competing in Chile in a Rally1 car is truly amazing, so I’d like to give a big thank you to the WRC Promoter and M-Sport for their support and cooperation.”
In Chile, Sesks will face an entirely different challenge. He was very familiar with both the Polish and Latvian events, having experience on those stages from the European Rally Championship. However, the gravel rally in Chile presents entirely new stages for him.
Additionally, the Rally Chile is far less fast-paced compared to the Polish and Latvian rounds. Sesks is primarily known as a specialist in high-speed gravel rallies.
“It will be demanding, but we love challenges. Once again, we’ll be the underdogs, driving a rally we don’t know with a non-hybrid car. But I believe we are ready,” Sesks said.
The Rally Chile takes place from September 26 to 29.
