Kris Meeke returned to the World Rally Championship in Portugal after a long break, competing in the event with Hyundai’s Rally2 car.

Despite some misfortunes along the way, the rally also included pleasant reunions.

At the end of one special stage, his former teammate and current Toyota team principal, Jari-Matti Latvala, interviewed Meeke, and they also agreed on future plans.

“It’s great so see you driving”, Latvala began, bringing a smile to Meeke’s face.

“I have to go to Youtube to watch you driving these historic cars,” Meeke smiled back at Latvala.

“I think we’re going to do a rally in a MK II Escort, us two,” Meeke suggested to Latvala.

The Finn was immediately excited by the idea, and the pair sealed the deal with a handshake.

“I believe in you! Lets do that,” Latvala enthused, shaking hands with Meeke.

Kris Meeke competed in the WRC for many years but ended his main class career in 2019. Since then, he has mostly competed in national rallies. Last year, Meeke participated in the legendary Roger Albert Clark Rally in Wales with the Ford Escort MKII mentioned.

Lately, Latvala has mostly competed in a Toyota Celica GT4. Last year, Latvala also competed in the Rally Finland driving Toyota’s current Rally1 car and impressively finished fifth overall.
