Hyundai’s Ott Tänak is the most eager to collect points, as he has a great opportunity to significantly close the gap to his teammate Thierry Neuville, who leads the WRC, in Latvia. Tänak was on a strong attack during the third stage on Sunday, ultimately recording the fastest time.

Kalle Rovanperä, who leads Rally Latvia, tried to challenge Tänak on the Krogzemji special stage, which was driven for the second time, but the Finnish driver’s speed wasn’t quite enough to beat the Estonian. Rovanperä ended up 0.3 seconds behind Tänak’s leading time.

Tänak moved up to share the top spot for Super Sunday with Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier. Rovanperä, on the other hand, is 1.6 seconds behind the leading duo before the final special stage.

The stakes for Super Sunday include seven championship points for the fastest driver of the day. From there, each position earns one point less, meaning the seventh-fastest driver of the day gets one point.

The distribution of the big points on the final day will be determined in the rally-ending Power Stage, which has huge stakes. Additional points are available for the five fastest drivers in the special stage. Tänak is hungry for points for his personal tally, while Rovanperä and Ogier are primarily collecting points for their team, Toyota, in the battle for the manufacturers’ championship.

Toyota’s Elfyn Evans is in fourth place on Super Sunday, but he has already fallen ten seconds behind the leaders. M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux and Hyundai star Neuville are tied and will decide between themselves who will finish fifth for the day.

In the overall rally standings, Rovanperä still has a clear lead of 40.9 seconds over his teammate Ogier. Latvian sensation Martins Sesks is still holding onto the final podium spot, but Tänak has crept up to just 4.6 seconds behind the local rally hopeful.

The rally-ending Power Stage of Rally Latvia begins at 13:15 CET.
