Motorsport Ireland has applied to host a WRC event for three years starting next season, with plans to hold the competition in different locations each year.

A key condition for Ireland’s WRC bid is securing sufficient funding. In practice, Motorsport Ireland needs to receive 15 million euros in government support, spread over three years.

Motorsport Ireland unveiled its project in January, but little information has been released since then. According to the Irish Examiner, the lack of updates has led to growing frustration among stakeholders.

Additional details were expected from the federation by mid-March before the West Cork Rally, but even after that, no updates were obtained from the federation’s president, Aiden Harper.

Per the Irish publication, the federation has set a deadline of mid-April. If clarity is not achieved by April 15th, Ireland’s WRC bid might fall through this time.

Ireland last hosted a WRC event in 2009, with Sligo as the central location. This time, Waterford, Kerry, and Limerick have been proposed as rotating hosts.

Alongside Ireland, Saudi Arabia and Paraguay are also contenders for the 2025 season calendar. The WRC Promoter has expressed a desire to hold two events in South America next year.

The WRC Promoter also announced that the schedule for next year’s championship is expected to be released by the end of June.
