The WRC season continues next week with the Acropolis Rally in Greece, but before that, Evans had a special task in Spain. At first glance, one might wonder why the Toyota star was training on tarmac ahead of a gruelling gravel event.
There is a logical explanation for this. Evans was in Spain testing tyres for manufacturer Hankook. Hankook will begin supplying tyres for the World Rally Championship next year, so this year, WRC drivers have been testing the South Korean company’s products.
During Hankook’s tests, teams are not allowed to try any new solutions on their cars other than Hankook’s tyres. The data and feedback collected from these tests help Hankook develop their tyres.
Evans conducted his tyre test in an iconic rally setting. His test stage was none other than Riudecanyes, which has become a classic in the Rally Catalonia.

Catalonia has not been part of the WRC calendar for the past two years. Next year, Spain will return to the championship, but this time, the competition will be held in the Canary Islands, which has a contract with the WRC Promoter for the 2025-26 seasons. It’s possible that after 2026, the Canary Islands and Catalonia will alternate in the WRC calendar.
Welsh driver Evans is currently fourth in the championship standings with four rounds remaining in the season. He is 36 points behind the leader.
