Rovanperä is currently on a break from the World Rally Championship, but the Finnish star still has plenty of driving on his agenda. He will compete in four events in the Porsche Carrera Cup this season.
Rovanperä makes his debut in the series this weekend at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands. His campaign began on Friday with free practice sessions.
The rally champion immediately showed that he can handle circuit racing as well. Competing with RedAnt Racing, Rovanperä finished fourth in the first free practice session with a time of 1:38.013.
He was 1.1 seconds behind Benjamin Paque, who clocked the fastest lap and is fourth in the series standings after the first race weekend.
Rovanperä’s pace improved in the second free practice session held in the evening. This time, the Finn placed third with a time of 1:36.891, just 0.2 seconds off the fastest lap set by Dirk Schouten. Dutch driver Schouten is currently leading the series standings.
“In the second free practice, we found the right feeling, so the time and pace were quite nice! Good feeling for tomorrow’s qualifying,” Rovanperä shared on his Instagram story.
The Zandvoort race weekend continues on Saturday morning with the qualifying session. The first race will take place on Saturday afternoon, followed by the second race on Sunday morning.
